Triple D’s, T in my house and YA’s not living at home

Now you’re probably wondering what the Triple D’s, T and YA‘s are standing for and what it has to do with my food blogging. Well let me tell you. It stands for Diabetes, Dementia, Dogs, a Teenager and two married Young Adults.

The Teenager is marked second last on the list because he is easy to satisfy. He eats all his food, doesn’t matter veggies, meat or whatever I baked or cooked. He eat and why, because he is always hungry. As long as the breakfast and lunch bag and dinner plate is filled, he is happy.

The Dementia in the house is also easy to cook for. She eats all and never complains. She loves cakes and cookies and can easily be spoiled with a sugar cone ice cream or if we’re outside somewhere on the road, a Magnum ice cream. That is her all time favourite. Any flavour, it doesn’t matter, just a Magnum. That’s good enough.

The Dogs love all food. Sammie and Sarah loves fruit, apples, strawberries, bananas, pears, pineapples, doesn’t matter as long as it is cold and juicy they will eat it. They love their raw veggies. Carrots, asparagus, onions, peas, beans, cauliflower and broccoli. I feed and they eat. They eat their pellets in the morning and evening and in between they love their pieces of fruit or veg.

The Diabetes in the house are the least easy to satisfy. He eats anything, never learned to say thank you for food and loves to complain. He loves his chocolates and candies in his drawer, just injects a bit more insulin if needed. He doesn’t like all food. He hates asparagus, and I love it. Wrapped with bacon, sprinkle a bit of a coarser salt and pepper over, bake and oh boy, that’s my favourite. He doesn’t like stews so much. I grew up in a house who loved stews. Tomato stew, Beef stew, Vegetable (any kind) stew. My granny loved stews and especially winter time in Cape Town, we always had stew with rice and a baked pudding. Riaan doesn’t like to braai (BBQ) as much as my dad and brother used too. My dad and brother didn’t mind the weather, as long as there were a piece of steak or marinated chicken and boerewors (sausage) or a Karoo-chop, they would braai. That was one of the best things when my brother came to visit last year December, he braaied for us. Almost every night. Oh, that was so good!! And Riaan was too happy, he could just sit next to my brother and watch him. When his blood-sugar levels drop, we have HomeMade Fudge or Energy bars to help it up again. For a extra ‘kick’ I make a delicious Chocolate sauce with our HomeMade Vanilla Ice Cream. That helps during the night the levels to stay safe. There’s always something HomeMade in the house for Diabetes to nibble or chew on.

Then there are the two married YA’s. Young Adults NOT living at home. Those two are extremely picky and choosy, but they’re leaving it at their house when visiting. Trent is sweet enough to eat all I put in front of him. Although he made it very clear that he doesn’t eat mushrooms. I have to BRAG, he‘s learning to speak Afrikaans so fast, it’s just amazing. Anne-Mieke definitely has more of her dad’s DNA in her. They are expecting and with being part of the new generation, there’s lots of stuff she’s not allowed to eat. In my days when I was pregnant, I had to eat what I have available in the cupboard.

My house are crazy busy some days, Some days overflowing with mixed emotions or pregnancy hormones, tantrums between dogs, semi-coma nights with Diabetes but always wrapped in between love. These are some of the reasons I love baking and cooking. I have such a big variety of tastes and preferences to prepare meals for and people to keep happy. As long as the Triple D’s, T and YA’s in the house are happy and satisfied, I am a happy wife and happy mom!

Take a look at some of my videos available on my YouTube Channel. Let me know what you think, like or any suggestions. If there are recipes you would like me to try, let me know what they are and I will give it a shot.

You are too funny mom. In my defense, I am picky not by choice. I am glad you are happy, we will always try our best to keep on putting smiles on your face!
